This week, I will review a few teacher websites that focus on creating classroom environments that promote a positive learning experience for young children. As a former Head Start teacher I understand how valuable the experience and expertise of veteran teachers are to those who are just beginning their teacher journey. It is extremely important to have classroom routines in place so that after a lot of practice and repetition your classroom will run like a well oiled machine. I have chosen to share with you four teachers who have created learning environments that are not only fun but organized.
GReg SMedley-Warren
The KinderGarten SmorGasBoard
Greg Smedley- Warren is a Kindergarten teacher in Nashville, TN. He has been teaching for ten years. He has experience teaching in 5th and 2nd grade but has found his home in the Kindergarten classroom. Mr. Greg has a unique classroom setup. He does not have desk or tables in the classroom. You may wondering, where and how do the children do their work? They complete their work on clipboards and are allowed to sit or lay down on little mats anywhere they want in the classroom. Mr. Greg says that he choose to do this in his classroom because he wanted to give his students more control and choice over their learning. This environment promotes community, engagement, and focus. He also uses community supplies. The children learn to share and respect the supplies in the classroom because they belong to everyone not just one individual child. She is currently using her expertise in the classroom to train teachers around the country so they can have a vibrant and active learning environment for their scholars. Mrs. Shipley is a former executive board member of Whole Brain Teaching. She uses Whole Brain Teaching as teaching and classroom management strategy. This technique uses verbal repetition and gestures to help students retain the information that is being taught. This teaching strategy adds fun and promotes student engagement. She has a lot of videos on YouTube demonstrating how to use Whole Brain Teaching in your classroom. Please take a moment to visit her website/blog by clicking the button below.
